How the Power Line Fault Indicators Work

Date:2022-12-20

Four-Faith Smart Power Line Fault Indicator is an intelligent alarm device that is applied to power transmission and distribution lines, power cables, and switchgear inlet and outlet lines to indicate single-phase ground short-circuit and phase-to-phase short-circuit faults. Once a fault occurs on the line, the line patrol personnel can use the alarm display of the fault indicator to quickly determine the fault section, find out the fault point, and eliminate the fault. Today we will take a look at how the line fault indicator works:

power line fault indicators work

1. Ground detection principle

Sampling the first half-wave of the capacitor current at the moment of grounding and the first half-wave of the voltage at the moment of grounding, and comparing their phases. If the voltage drops, it is judged that the line is grounded, otherwise the line is not grounded.

2. Principle of short circuit detection

According to the short-circuit phenomenon; at the moment of short-circuit, the current changes suddenly, and the protection action power failure is used as the action basis.

3. Installation location

Substation or opening and closing station exit, judge whether the fault is inside or outside the station

At the main line and branch, determine the branch or section where the fault is located

The connection between the cable and the overhead line and the cable indicates that the fault is on the overhead line or cable

On the switch cabinet or in the box transformer or branch box

The place where the user's high-voltage incoming line is used to judge the user's fault

4. Features of line fault indicator

4.1 Fault indication: During normal operation, the window is displayed in white; when a short-circuit fault occurs, the window is displayed in red.

4.2 Automatic reset: After the power supply of the line is restored, the fault indicator will automatically reset, and the reset time can be selected by the customer according to the line environment, length of line inspection, and departmental requirements.

4.3 Live loading and unloading: Live loading and unloading is extremely simple and does not affect line operation.

4.4 Provides technical means for finding hidden fault points.

4.5 Quickly indicate the fault lines and fault points to shorten the troubleshooting time.

4.6 Accurately indicate instantaneous faults, which is beneficial to eliminate hidden dangers of power supply.

4.7 Avoid the impact of traditional multiple circuit inspections on power equipment.

The power line fault location system accurately monitors the state of the line in real time, and sends the received information such as fault alarm and power failure status to the center of the main station; the main station performs data statistics, analysis, and topology calculation on the information to determine the fault area; At the same time, the information of the fault point will be sent to the mobile phone of the relevant personnel set up by the production management department of the power supply bureau, the line engineer, the person in charge of line maintenance, etc., so as to guide the staff to find the fault point quickly and accurately.
