What is an Overhead Line Fault Indicator? How Overhead Line Fault Indicators Work

Date:2022-12-20

In the distribution network system, there are many line branches, the operation mode is complicated, and the management and maintenance workload of the line is heavy. It takes time and effort to query when a fault occurs, and the reliability of power supply is low. The fault indicator can make up for the shortage of the above-mentioned transmission and power supply fault query, save time and effort, and provide a strong guarantee for quickly querying the fault point and quickly restoring power supply.

With the development of technology, the line fault indicator has continuously improved its technological content and has a wide variety. According to the different characteristics of transmission and distribution lines, there are corresponding products of various specifications and models, mainly including: cable short circuit fault indicator, grounding and Short circuit fault indicator, panel type fault indicator, overhead line fault indicator, high voltage line fault indicator. Next, let's take a closer look at the working principle of the overhead line fault indicator.

1. What is an overhead line fault indicator

The overhead line fault indicator is easily installed on the overhead wire according to the single-phase or three-phase application through the insulating rod. The fault indicator has a built-in highly integrated microprocessor, which continuously samples the load current in the system, and according to its The current value automatically adjusts the gate threshold.

2. Working principle of overhead line fault indicator

After a fault occurs, the fault indicator will flash a red light to indicate a permanent fault. Subsequently, the fault indicator enters a two-minute latching mode, allowing reclosing and switching operations. After two minutes, the fault indicator will detect the system voltage and load current to determine whether it is a transient fault or a permanent fault. If it is a transient fault, the system voltage and system load current will reset. Otherwise, the red light indicating a permanent fault will display 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the current before the fault. A photoelectric sensor built into the fault indicator detects natural light conditions, and in day mode, the two forward-facing lights flash at full brightness to indicate a permanent fault. In night mode, the brightness of these two lights is reduced to save energy.

3. Overhead distribution line status monitoring system

In this mode, a set of built-in lights illuminates the entire transparent shell of the indicator at the same time, and the visibility is guaranteed at a distance of more than 1000 inches from the indicator, and adapts to a full range of 360-degree angles. The flashing pulse modulation circuit optimizes brightness and battery life. The product is easy to install and can quickly help maintenance personnel find the faulty line, thereby shortening the fault finding time by more than 50%, and greatly reducing the loss caused by faults in power and industrial systems. Applied to overhead lines, the instantaneous fault provides an eight-hour fault indication, allowing the line staff to troubleshoot the faulty line section, investigate the line that has automatically cleared the fault and the line that has successfully reclosed after tripping, and improves the reliability of power supply.
